we are writting from north part of Alcala de Henares. During 1996 legionella outbreak, our building was identified as the main focus (a commercial center at building ground floors has the tower #1 according to official report of April/97, tower #1 was the lethalest point).

We are sadly amazed at checking no spanish representation will be present among Scientific Programme speakers of the 5th International Conference on Legionella. This is the first international conference after Alcala's outbreak (one of the bigger outbreak in the world) and no spanish info, no spanish representation will be present at Ulm.

Nowadays, our community are living new worried days. Recently, a judicial sentece authorizes commercial center to use again air emissions from cooling tower (until now an expensive cooling by non-recycled water has been enforced by health authorities). Sentece states a two-meter chimney at building roof (five floors) is a secure deployment. There is no mention about the actual water system conditions.

Our building is densely surrounded by other buildings (a typical downtown). We are afraid of dangerous expert-witness error. On the one hand, there have been no works (strictly NO) to repair district water system, even though the official report addressed it as the most likely contamination source. On the other hand, several technical references state diffusion range from a cooling tower can reach several hundred meters (!!): indeed, during Alcala outbreak searching works planned 200-meter radius centered at suspected towers, and victims were found at
100, 200 and 300 meters.

Laziness of spanish political and health authorities makes our community suffer from new worried days. We pretend the international conference know about this incredible situation. However, this email is not only a public claim, we would like to be advised in order to begin the most suitable juridic, technical and public reactions.
